The American Bald
Eagle Foundation (ABEF) is a private, nonprofit organization
dedicated to the conservation and propagation of the American Bald
Eagle and its habitat throughout North America. The foundation has
built and operates an educational Center in Haines Alaska close to
the unspoiled natural laboratory of the Chilkat Bald Eagle Preserve.
This preserve is the site of the greatest gathering of eagles in the
world. The research and instruction made possible by this Center
helps to educate thousands of visitors each year of the critical
role we all play in protecting and helping to re-establish
wildlife species like the eagle to its former range.
Through a cooperative
agreement, Watchable Wildlife, Inc. is
working with the ABEF on a number of key goals:
- Expanding the interpretive
displays of the foundation's museum
- Develop educational
programs to help teach the important lessons learned from our work
with bald eagles
- Promote outreach programs
to help communities build an economic base through wildlife tourism,
while protecting the habitat and species visitors come to view.
- Work with the ABEF and the
City of Haines to grow the Alaska Bald Eagle Festival as an
economically viable tool for teaching the cultural and natural
history of the American Bald Eagle.
